Do items have maximum durability that goes lower and lower the more it gets damaged like vehicle parts? Or can I repair a piece of clothing forever with no drawbacks?

Besides vehicles that need to replaced if you don’t want to deal with the drop in functionality or like me feel a need to have " + + " vehicle condition for no other reason than uniformity

Your clothing and equipment can be repaired indefinitely if it provides the information that it can be repaired and what resources you need to repair it. Items you cannot repair will specifically say so in description.

And guns have another level of maintenance in the fouling system but reasonably shouldn’t be a problem unless you use black powder ammunition or use a gun as a primary weapon for a long time.

Items when properly maintained can work with no lasting performance defects

Also need to also be aware that electronic things can be broken and at that point if it says “broken” then it is beyond reasonable repair and can be dissassembled for parts - broken can be achieved by close proximity to electrical current and emp attacks and is more easily affected if an item is in a conductive pocket or if you dive into deep water as far as I know.

Artifacts can have a limited number of uses and also be unable to recharge. And liquids can be spilled on the ground and made unusable (well, aside from some exploits to re-gather them).

That’s as close as I can think of.

But neither is really the kind of permanent cap on durability bounding repairs that OP is talking about.

Isn’t there a rare artifact that recharges by closing portals? Granted getting that specific artifact is rare though as they are difficult to find and are so random with mostly negative, from my experience, effects.

And yeah, spilled liquids is pain especially in labs and when your glass containers get shattered

I have noticed there’s some weapons that natively have less durability, even if you start using it with max.

Like, the maces you make with pipe fittings and a pipe are pretty durable (both of them). But there’s a different mace that I think uses a nail and string or something to attach the head to the handle and it breaks from use VERY fast.

A lot of the swords/katanas are also cheap mall ninja shit. I’m careful these days to read the description so I know if it’s going to fall apart after two blows or what.

In earlier builds, you could sometimes find some real bladed weapons in mansions, but nowdays you’re lucky if you find medieval or Japanese armor that fits. (Although those are nice if you’re not yet at a point where you can make them yourself, or don’t want to waste all the time doing it.)

Oh, try and find either sword of the samurai i think it is called (can make high quality katanas or nodachis and other asian themed weapons) or medieval weapons recipe book.

Tempered weapons are like the premium tier stuff, need a high temperature welding kit to repair it though and carbon steel. ( tip if you can’t find a welding blanket you can get the materials for a makeshift one from deconstructing two of the oven parts from deconstructing an oven)

I think the carbonisation process needs a book though.

You can sometimes find genuine weapons and armour in mansions ( i personally find proper maces of the weapons that are genuine) but yeah reading the descriptions can save you from a bad situation yeah

      spoiler

If you don’t want to worry about durability try and get a monomolecular blade cbm installed- damage is cutting(27) and has high parry and seems to be infinite durability

Good for most of the things in the game when you are decently skilled ( like 6-7 in cutting and melee)
