Being appreciated… either by my kids, my partner, co-workers or anyone else really…

If I feel like I’ve made someone happy or helped them out somehow and they give a heartfelt “thanks” or even just a big smile, well that always makes my day.

    My kids.

It sounds cheesy, but I’m acutely aware that I’m experiencing the best years of my life right now - the ones that I’ll look back on with strong nostalgia for the rest of my life. Life is amazing, and I’m grateful for every day.

I’m so jealous of friends with kids. It’s a wonder to see what’s obviously a smaller version of the two combined. Sometimes more like Dad and other times more like Mom. It must be enchanting to look in their eyes and see part of yourself.

Well, that’s what i think 50% of the time i visit friends with kids, the other 50% i’m fucking glad i don’t have kids of my own. They can be the worst lol.

The new responsibilities, the crying, the diapers for a few years, the chaos, the messy house, etc. can definitely be a hassle, but it’s just so damned rewarding that all of that feels like a drop in the bucket to me.

I’ve described it to people before as like winning the lottery. Yeah, it would be annoying to have to go turn in the ticket, go to the bank quite a few times, probably hire a money manager and sit through a lot of boring calls and appointments about your accounts for the rest of your life, hire a lawyer to manage your will/estate, etc., but when compared to how much you’ve gained, you wouldn’t even really care about that, you know?

Playing guitar. I’m bad, can’t really play with others, couldn’t play live, but being able to sing and play along to songs I love, putting my own spin on them, or getting into a rhythm and making up silly lyrics is one of the most valuable things I ever learned to do. Probably the single best thing I’ve done in my life is learn to play.

Being the small spoon. Sometimes a man just needs to be cuddled and I am glad my girlfriend understands that.
