I dreamed last night about finding a playlist of 55 or so videos published by some probably 30-something white guy from the suburban USA around 2011. The playlist was titled something like “various rants”, but really these videos weren’t “rants” at all, they were 5~12 minute videos of this guy just being overwhelmingly and infectiously positive rambling about all his frivolous hobbies, mainly anime, video games, and Nerf guns. He seemed autistic if I’m being honest.

Now on the one hand, it feels kind of pathetic to be dreaming about wasting an hour or two on watching old YouTube reviews, 'cause that’s like three layers of unreality… But on the other hand, I kind of wish this YouTuber was real. So if you know any old YouTubers matching this description, please send them to me.

I came across a video from an old account. Asian guy, met his love when they were late teens. Had two, maybe three kids. His wife died in her early 50s to leukemia last month. There were quite a lot of content, with the children and with them enjoying. It was heartbreaking and soothing at the same time, and I kinda liked the YouTube of that era.

Here’s the link to the video

When it was new to me, circa 2006, and mostly just had reuploads of prank shows and atheism v. creationism vids. I remember a dream where I sat down and watched a video on it called “insurance agent PRANK reads his own autopsy” that was just a guy walking into a cubicle in a hotel conference room and sitting down and opening a manila folder and there’s just a photo of the same guy dead on an autopsy table and he just sits there processing the claim. A guy in a grim reaper costume walks in and knocks at his cubicle entrance, he looks and then jumps onto the desk and then over the cubicle and runs off into a seemingly neverending conference room. Then I was in the same conference room looking for a bathroom for what felt like an eternity until I woke up.

Sometimes I have third person dreams where I’m watching an unfamiliar movie but its hard to tell on where. I’ve dreamt of other virtual activities like playing video games, people being mean to me on reddit, reading interesting articles etc, just seems to match the pattern I’ve noticed with dreams that they typically reflect real life interactions, people that don’t remember their dreams are spared having to recall going to work in them, an unpaid overtime.
