Rodri is out for the rest of the season for Man City with an ACL injury. While it’s wrong to celebrate someone getting injured, especially a world-class player. There’s is a part of me that can’t help thinking a) this is helpful to our title challenge, and b) in addition to being a phenomenal player, he’s also a mouthy, dirty bastard. So maybe there’s a small degree of karma to this.

Aye aye. It does weaken Citeh for the other teams. But there’s also the scenario where it’s ‘cut off one snake head, another grows in its place’ a la H.Y.D.R.A. Their depth is scary and it’s their strength.

      Plus it’s Rodri…so anyway…

      a) if anyone deserves it, it’s him and b) the way he sustained it was trying to get one of ours sent off for absolutely nothing. So forgive me, PGMOL + greater Manchester area, if I don’t mourn his knee ligaments.

This may be a long rant, but I watched Arteta’s postmatch interview and he was (rightfully) savage at the end.

He was asked given the circumstances, Arteta and the players could take some real belief in what they we able to achieve. He replied along the lines of, it’s incredible how we reacted, but he could not be happy because he wants to be involved in a high quality game that can be enjoyed and can be spoken about “in the proper way and we are not talking about that.”

Then ended, “It’s clear, you haven’t asked me one single tactical question.”

The fact they were asking him his thoughts on all the controversy means nobody got to enjoy a high quality/high stakes game, because it was once again ruined by poor officiating.

How can everyone go from, the refs need some common sense in situations like those, for Rice’s 2nd yellow one week, then, Trossard needs to do better, he should know you will get punished for that, the next. Assuming it’s for the kick/clearance and not the tackle, it happens in such a split second and then you’re expecting him to pull out as soon as the whistle blows. There’s a reason someone invented a table saw that shuts off on human contact. We’re not that fucking quick.

It’s annoying how much people squirm and twist to excuse one player and not another, like Doku. Jesus got a yellow for delaying a restart as well.

What about Haaland? Not a single yellow despite throwing a ball at the head of an opposing player or for the unnecessary unsportsman-like barge into a player off the restart. When City do it, they’re just passionate. If Arsenal do it, they’re overreacting, they should sit down until they’ve actually won a trophy. Here’s a yellow card. It’ll brighten up the place. You know what, two would brighten things up even more! Ohh whoops. Yikes… my mistake. I guess that’s red now.

In our game against City last season, although Howard admitted Oliver got it wrong, Oliver apparently didn’t want to card Kovacic since he didn’t want to have a negative impact on the game. Just fuck right off. Are you there to officiate the rules of the game as your job as a referee or decide when the rules apply dependent on how you feel?

I know the officiating is abysmal for a lot of teams and you can point to any number of reasons why that is. I’m just fucken annoyed by it enough I needed to rant and get it off my chest.

I also want to mention Silva mentioning Arsenal using the “dark arts” is fucking rich coming from this City team.

I could rant about a lot of things, but I’m going to end it here.

I think the “entertainment” angle is the wrong way to look at it. At the end of the day, this is a sports league. The competition is what makes it entertaining, which you allude to by pointing out that no one will talk about anything but the officiating.

Genuinely, I hope Oliver gets a few months of vacation that includes City’s return to the Emirates.

Bernardo Silva revealed himself to be a clueless clown at a whole new level after yesterday’s match.

"Maybe that Liverpool have already won the Premier League, Arsenal haven’t.”

Hilarious that he thinks the PL has only been in existence since his club came into their dirty oil money and started cheating their way to ‘success’. Mate, we won the PL fairly multiple times before your cheating started. Shit, we won a fucking Golden PL trophy thanks to our Invincibles (which his club still doesn’t have). So pipe down and learn your history.

Btw, this might be just me but: is anyone else worried about our defence now? I mean I hope Calafiori and Timber just had knocks but if it’s at all serious we have somehow gone from 7 left backs in the senior squad to 2 (including MLS).

Arteta confirmed that both Calafiori and Timber were fine, just their muscles had cramped up.

I’m only worried about defense because a) we need more of them to play with Ø and b) we need more of then to play with 10 men

Jesus getting a yellow for delaying because he didn’t have his shoe on when the rules dictate that play cannot proceed when players don’t have shoes on, shows just how much objectivity and impartiality Oliver had. It was a disgraceful performance.

I find it funny how someone was talking about maybe turning daily discussions into weeklys and the day after we get like, 30+ comments lmfao

Yeah, we should keep them daily. They are great for community engagement, and one of the big reasons why this community is the most active club football one on Lemmy.

And it’s only one post a day, so it’s not like they are flooding the community. Some daily posts will be totally dead/empty, but that’s okay. That’s the natural cycle of discussions and engagement - they are bursty.

tbh, always has been. I know it doesn’t say that on the thread name but tbh that’s mainly just cuz I’m not the one who made the bot / has control over it and I cba asking Eabryt to change it. “A community for supporters of …Arsenal” is what’s said on the sidebar. Doesn’t mean we can’t talk about things other than Arsenal, especially when people actually want to talk about it. My only plea is that it’s civil and preferably uncontroversial especially when it comes to anything political cuz I am just one barely adult dude lol.

Ngl my head is still fuming from that game. And the city players acting like they’re worth anything.

There are still a lot of positives, but I’m there with you. It’s hard to say we were robbed, but we were definitely robbed of the chance to do anything.

You want an exciting, enjoyable game for all pundits? Have 22 players on the pitch is a good starting point

We were definitely robbed. Not of a win, but of a chance to play the game. It seems like every time we go to the Etihad, something occurs that basically invalidates the actual 90 minutes of football. Absolutely no one is talking about tactics or strategy in the match yesterday. And that alone means that the match is a nothing.

Desperately hope you’re right. He has such a different energy to most in our team. He and Calafiori have that run straight at the goal energy that we sort of lack

Just realised City have Gundogan again. I know this was probably impossible to do but we should have moved heaven and earth to try and sign him when Barca were willing to let him go for free. At the very least force City to match a fee.

Ew. I don’t even like the fact that the Kroenkes own an MLS club even though we’re separated by basically everything except Trusty.
