I was shocked in the presidential debate that Harris gave staunch support for fracking. I was under the impression that democrats are against fracking, and remember people being critical of Fetterman for supporting it.
I also grew up in an area that was heavily impacted by the pollution from fracking. People who worked in the field were seen as failures of moral character who chose profits over the health of their children. How is it that both major parties are now in support of it? I feel like I must be missing a piece of the puzzle.
Air (and methane pollution in particular) is bad, but the more noticeable problem that gets people mad is ground water: wells, streams, the stuff you drink and get in your food.
I believe the clean energy initiatives are supposed to be a counter to fracking. If everyone goes solar/wind, then we don’t need to ban fracking – the same way we don’t need to ban horses for people to use cars.
America is like a 600lb person who just had their second heart attack. Yes, there is a technological solution. You could get gastric bypass surgery. But the surgery isn’t for another year because the surgeon is overbooked, and there’s a good chance you’re going to have your third heart attack and die before then. Ban the fried food, sugar, and salt, and even if you don’t lose much weight, your arteries will clear up and you won’t die this year.
America needs to change its unhealthy behaviour right now. We can’t afford to wait for technology to fix the problem.
Truly!
