We’ve gone from “if you don’t vote you have no right to complain” to “if you don’t dedicate time to running for office in matter how reactionary your area is, you have no right to complain.”
There is always more things you can do that are better for your cause than complaining to random people. You have the right to complain, but you do not have the right for that to magically be effective.
Eventually it’s going to be “if you’re not at least a second term member of Congress, you have no right to complain”
