Yeah, for some reason, after the newest UI update, changing the volume from another device is broken… AGAIN. Good thing I use spotify like that only 90% of the time.

I sure do love using services I pay for…

You might want to know that old spotify versions work perfectly.

Up until I switched to tidal 4 months ago, I was using a version of spotify from August 2023 to avoid all the “tiktokerry” that appeared everywhere. I tested many versions, and the point where the app stops working seems to be somewhere in 2017

Mobilism is about as good as it gets afaik. Just use the same method as torrenting by only downloading from uploaders with a consistent history of good uploads.

Spotify is pretty ominous on its own tbh, with its emotional surveillance and motion tracking now being implemented to sell to 3rd parties. I now get targeted with White Claw advertisements after putting on a sad playlist.

Yes. It’s very easy to turn “”“anonymized”“” location data into something directly tied to an identity using the accelerometer.

Unless they meant tracking of interactions within the app.

Playing from another device is the main thing for me, as it’s very convenient… I am also in a “family” plan with a few of my friends and pay a fraction of what a regular premium subscription costs… It’s all just convenience, really.

E: Also, besides tidal, do they really have any serious competition?

Youtube Music, with the obvious disadvantage of Google’s involvement.

Switched to Deezer lately after getting annoyed of features being removed or worsened.

Deezer is roughly comparable to Spotify. And at least I am not supporting the near-monopolist now.

If you have more than 10k songs saved, unfortunately the only alternative is Apple Music, which runs like complete shit on all hardware (including theirs)

Years ago I switched from Spotify to Napster. Do not recommend. Napster would a single album missing from a bands discography for no apparent reason, and sometimes a song from an alum was missing.

I reluctantly went back to Spotify, but after the last price hike I switched to tidal. I was able to import all of my play lists. It does not have all of the lyrics that Spotify did, but it does have a lot. Tidal does not do a great job of holding my place in a song between listening sessions. I can control what is playing on a different device. I do not use it, so I do not know how well it works.

Like what? Is there one that functions well and isn’t owned by a megacorporation or billionaire? I haven’t been able to find one.

I tried Tidal and the app is absolute dogshit.
