I remember a comic I read in the 90s where a guy got pinned under a tree he had been chopping down and cut some fingers off as he dropped the axe. As he starved he caved and ate his fingers turning him into the Wendigo. Which I felt was kind of unfair. Auto-cannibalism shouldn’t trigger it. Guess it saved his life but also he killed a bunch of people so that sucks for him.

I don’t know that much about the curse but i agree, that doesn’t sound like it’d do it.
I guess the in Marcel universe excuse is Canada has a bunch of unknowable old first nation gods and spirits .
Whoever was in charge of the Wendigo curse was like “close enough!”
(and fair enough given he was a white settler)
