Turns out the film prints weren’t destroyed after all:

Studio sources dispute a rumor that 70mm prints of “Interstellar” were destroyed; Paramount claims it has archived more copies of the movie than most other pictures. However, because reels of film experience wear and tear while playing on the big screen, it’s not uncommon for them to be unusable after their theatrical runs.

They’re rereleasing old content in theaters because they didn’t make any content for the past two years. They shut down shop while the writers, actors, and technicians were negotiating a new contract and now, we’re all thinking about leaving the industry. Streaming companies killed the film industry.

The most likely reason for re-releasing Interstellar is to test the 70mm IMAX projectors in time for Joker 2.

Ten years ago I thought it was a great movie until they left for space, at which point it got gradually worse until the ending just sucked an inexcusable amount. But I hadn’t seen 2001 yet, and a lot of the weirder elements seemed to come out of nowhere. I should probably give it another shot.
