It was loli stuff, not actual child porn. Irish law treats them the same, though, and vlemmy was based in Ireland.
He wrote a message to the folks at burggit.moe giving his reasons for defederating with them and saying he’d refederate once lemmy had the tools to allow him to only block the loli communities. The burggit.moe folks sent him a reply thanking him for letting them know (they said it was the nicest defederation message they’d ever received).
I suspect that’s not why vlemmy disappeared, though. The domain was a dynamic DNS domain, meaning he was probably hosting it on his own server at his house. I’m guessing the rush of Reddit refugees overloaded his system and/or network connection and he pulled the plug. That’s just a guess, though - I have no insider information.
