Good luck with that. They’re already bought and paid for. They owe no loyalty to Biden or democrats.
Or to the average american
Especially not them.
In regards to term limits of Supreme Court justices, some say that only a constitutional amendment could enforce term limits, as current proposed legislation would be unconstitutional. They argue that the relegation of judges to a new form of senior status (described in past bill proposals) runs afoul to the constitutional provision allowing justices to serve “in good Behaviour”, according to Article III Section 1. President Biden supports a system where a President would appoint a justice every 2 years and justices would serve 18 year terms on the Supreme Court.
I think they are correct, an amendment would be the appropriate form for this change as the constitution says what ever 5 of the 9 of the justices say it does.
So correct me if I’m wrong, but this is meaningless right? This is not within the scope of what the president can do. Him calling for these changes is about as impactful as the owner of a coffee shop doing the same. Congress has no obligation to listen to him on this, let alone take steps to get it done. Just feels ridiculous that we’re cheering this.
People: “Oh boy, Biden is free to flex his power in great ways during these last few months, can’t wait to see what he decides to do!”
Biden: “I wish things could be better…”
People: “YEA! Get 'em Joe!”
He can’t do it on his own, but if the sitting President calls for, say, a constitutional amendment, it immediately has political credibility and is far more likely to be passed. This is a very, very good thing.
And does Congress have a recent history of following up on things the President calls for?
Yes. Biden managed to get a decent portion of his “Build Back Better” campaign platform passed in his 1st 2 years, when the Democrats (narrowly) held both chambers of Congress.
I don’t know why you are being downvoted for your question. I too have lost faith in Congress and fail to see how this will materialize into any kind of real change. I would love to be wrong though.
I think the difference with your argument is that the guy at the coffee shop isn’t the leader of the free world.
Leader of the western, capitalist, corpo-military complex sure…but “leader of the free world” is a bit hyperbolic no?
Yeah, but it’s pedantic to act like I made that term up.
Fair. I meant more that we should do away with the term as it’s a propagandized and charged term
So you needed to complain about SOMEthing In this thread, and this is what you settled on, huh
