Does the Montessori model provide a model for how everyone could be educated? Should a socialist project attempt the reconstitution of public education informed by the principles of Montessori education?
I have experience with some Montessori institutions. Generally they are pretty good at getting kids to think critically, learn from mistakes and take responsibility early in development. Would definitely be cool to see in a socialist project, but not sure about how to scale it to a national level. Might have issues with standardization.
I hear it’s quackery and doesn’t work for everyone.
And frankly, I’m inclined to agree.
Public education is still preferable to private and home-schooling.
I have little experience with this, but I’ve heard what counts as “Montessori” is basically up in the air in the US. Its a mixed bag of results according to the wiki page, and probably has some merits but I don’t think any alternative system that develops under capitalism will ever be a revolutionary replacement for existing bourgeois education.
