I’ll never forget the first time I heard “The Talking Drum”, scared the bejeezus outta me, one of the few genuinely spooky songs I’ve ever heard, and that’s because it’s not trying to be spooky, it’s exploring mathematical Middle Eastern musical textures, and it comes out buzzing with some sort of mystical energy, where alien apparitions whizz by in front of your eyes.
Fripp was (and still is, thank god) sort of crazy chaotic genius who has struck gold on more than a few occasions.
