More than 6,000 United Methodist congregations have now received permission to leave the denomination amid a schism over theology and the role of LGBTQ people.
With these departures, progressives are expected to propose changing church law at the next General Conference in 2024 to allow for same-sex marriage and the ordination of LGBTQ people.
This is the problem with the “if you don’t like it, leave” talking points that always happen in politics. Maybe they like where they are, and want to see it thrive. If you leave, you can’t effect change. But if you stay, you’re forced to deal with hostile policies.

Problem is though, if most of the progressive churches left, then the conservative majority that’s left probably won’t be down with this.
