How about not repeating meaningless slogans and suggesting solutions that don’t exist?

We should be targeting a world without micro plastics. The sweet little petrochemical companies really don’t need you stepping in to defend them

For clothing we can target natural fibers like wool and alpaca fleece. These offer superior durability with many of the same moisture wicking properties as polyester. Some people won’t be able to afford these nicer clothes on their income. We can address this by taxing the rich, providing more social safety nets, and raising the minimum wages. For single use plastics we can start asking if packages at the store really need cling wrap protecting the cardboard box. We can also question if those cardboard boxes really need glossy packaging. Another major source is single use plastics bottles and drink cups from fast food. We can deal with a lot of this by figuring out why so many people don’t consider their drinking water safe, and then making their drinking water safe.

There. There’s three things I was able to think of off the top of my head. But you wanna know something? It starts with saying “there’s a problem, and we need to do something.” So I say to you again. Why do the big petrochemical companies need little old you to step in and protect them? Do you really think there’s just no other way forward than to destroy the world, or do you lack so much imagination that when someone says you should be trying to reduce or avoid something, you need them to go into exhaustive detail about what a future without that thing could look like?

None of what you said could be made at scale. You just spouted a few catchphrases that mean nothing and think you solved the world’s problems.

I don’t think I’ve solved the worlds problems. But apathy is what’s killing us and if we don’t even try to put in the work to find solutions we won’t find them. I’m not trying to speak in catchphrases and I’m not even sure which parts of my speech I’m referring to. Regardless of how you feel about it I’m going to keep putting in the work to politically motivate people to awaken to that our modern conveniences don’t need to be as disposable as they are, that neocolonialism is sapping the world of its resources to enrich the 1%, and that we can’t expect better if we don’t do anything at all. I would love to hear your ideas too. But the biggest thing is we can’t do better if we don’t even think about how to do better. It all starts with envisioning a better world and then working towards that

There is a difference between apathy and complaining about something without any feasible solution. Other than that, again, more catchphrases.

Yet all you’ve done is complain. Also crazily enough, many of the things he said above can be put to scale.

I think we would all love to see your grandiose ideas and plans to help better humanity, or is your only plan to dissuade everyone from doing anything, so that you don’t feel guilty for doing fuck-all?

Nothing you, or anyone else, write here matters. Nobody here will be a driver for change. Nobody here will introduce any change to how the world works. Great job assuming people have main character syndrome like you and have “grandiose ideas and plans to better humanity”. You aren’t “doing something” by arguing on a niche forum and throwing one-liners. None of your “plans” will be enacted.

If your rubric for a good comment is proposing solutions, I haven’t seen anything from you but removed that this person hasn’t solved the world’s problems.

I haven’t thrown a one-sentence “we shouldda” out there, I don’t need to “propose solutions”. Also, such “proposals” mean jack, have no bearing on real life and are transient in nature - a week from now nobody will remember the post. This isn’t the UN, this is a small forum with angrily idealistic people who ultimately won’t be in a position to suggest anything or introduce any change in how the world works.

Whar leads you to believe we don’t log out and go do gardening, talk to friends about what to do about all of this, call our senators and congressmen, canvas people to register to vote?

What leads you to believe your gardening will change anything? What leads you to believe calling a politician will bring about any change? Especially with saying things like “let’s get rid of all the plastic in the world”? Ultimately nobody here has enough power behind them to actually influence anything, especially with such an unrealistic idea.

So your solution is petulant nothingness? Your goals for the planet are to let it burn? I’m not saying I have the answers, but you’re in here telling us what we’re doing isn’t helpful, but we’ve asked you what you’re doing, what ideas you have to bring to the table that we could start implementing, but all you ever offer is apathy. This is my last comment to you unless you want to start suggesting things. Its clear you don’t agree with this communities core ethos which is “for things to change you have to do things”

Nope, I do things that matter and give visible and measurable impact. Again I am hit here with main character syndrome - there is no “table” to bring ideas to. I am not going to be “suggesting things”. It’d be screaming into the void that is forgotten after a cute cat video pops up on youtube.
