What year of outback? And what types of things are you looking to carry?
Most newer outback’s have cross bars built into the roof trim, they just pivot out and connect to the other side. I picked up the Yakima skylines for my Wrx, mainly due to the low profile which should be less noisy. I’d check out outback forums should be a ton of info there for every year.

I have a 2015 that has the cross bars. This would be for suitcases when camping or vacation primarily. Thanks for the forum link. I’ll check it out.
