Ooh, just followed my first lemmy community from Mastodon. Seems I just have to replace the “!” with “@” when I search for them. They seem to show up as a “Group” here. Nice!
First out was @startrek 🌌
Yep! Welcome!! What’s cool about this is that we can now talk to each other!!
Word of warning, following a lemmy community can create a bit of a firehose. So making good use of your lists is probably a good idea. You’ll probably want to put lemmy communities into appropriate lists and use lists for other people that are important to you so that you don’t miss their stuff.
Also, if you don’t know, you can post to lemmy communities too. I’ve done a demo here with links to the lemmy view of the post: https://hachyderm.io/@maegul/110483509521476095
The short story is:
- “at” the community like you normally would a mastodon user
- Use the first line of the post as the title of the post (this is what lemmy will do)
- Make sure that the lemmy community you’re “at-ing” is the first handle/user in the post, as lemmy will only post to the first handle/user in the text, in order to avoid spam. You can still “at” others, but they have to b listed afterwards.
