Didn’t actually realise that the #StarTrek subreddits of /r/StarTrek & /r/DaystromInstitute had permanently locked their subreddits and started a #Lemmy community @ https://lemmy.world/c/startrek@startrek.website @startrek.

Given Trek fandom are often the first colonizers of online spaces in internet history (eg newsgroups) losing major Star Trek communities is big L for Reddit.

    @Lamhfada @startrek FYI, tagging a Lemmy community from Mastodon also turns the toot into a post in that community - something to keep in mind!

    And yes, the Lemmy instance is run by current and former mods of those subreddits.

      Yep. I wrote a basic demo of posting to a lemmy community from mastodon here: https://hachyderm.io/@maegul/110483509521476095 (Also mentioned the same in this community here: https://lemmy.ml/comment/1110753)

      In the thread you’ll find links to the lemmy view of the post.

      It’s pretty easy actually! And it’s a nice way to join these two platforms together, as people from both mastodon, any other microblog and lemmy/kbin will all be able to participate in a conversation together.

      When the fediverse works well, it’s really a multiplier, as the sizes of all of the platforms can contribute to the effective size of any one of them to help build communities, or, to bootstrap a new platform above the threshold of having compelling activity.

    From what I can tell, those subreddits participated in the blackout, but neither are “permanently locked”.

    Interesting to see though that r/startrek’s header says “now at startrek.site”

      By @ ing the community in your original post you made a post in the Lemmy community - hello from Lemmy!

          Lol I’m sure it’s fine, it’s just one post. Idk if there’s a way to remove it from Lemmy, maybe editing the post to remove the @ but that’s just a guess.

      @Lamhfada @startrek

      I don’t recommend it. Ends up flooding your feed with content from the Lemmy community. Plus you aren’t able to make new posts or upvote/downvote

      Making a dedicated Lemmy account will give you a far better experience

        @actsukrit Interesting, thanks! will see how it goes, I work a lot of shift work when my regular feed of mostly people in Ireland are not active so having a fuller feed isn’t necessarily bad.

        Have made a Lemmy a/c with the same usernname and my subscription is pending to @startrek so either way will get some content hopefully.

    Can’t wait till they bring up a ShittyDaystrom. I’ve got a post brewing about how the Federation wouldn’t exist without disgusting Ferengi sex programs. It’s way too long and snooty for Risa, and far too ridiculous for the actual Daystrom. :(

    Gotta ask. I have this same account name on lemmy.world and on startrek.website. Will that be a problem? I’ve just been logging into both, the startrek.website posts seem to take a long time to get to lemmy.world, so I just log in here if I want to read this stuff.

      Shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve signed up for a couple of instances just to test things out. Haven’t had any issues with it.
