What is with dickheads getting light bars on their cars now. I live in a rural area and not right on the road, trying to sleep and then at 12:38am some dickhead’s got his light bar on and my whole room is illuminated, and the part of the road he was on… at least a kilometre or two away! WTF are they trying to see that their high beams won’t show them? Are they trying to stun wildlife so they can hit them?

It’s really difficult trying to drive at night now too, if the white head lights on new cars aren’t burning your eyes out, you get one of these idiots come along. It’s not just SUVs and 4WDs either, I’ve seen them on hatchbacks and sedans as well.

Sorry for the rant - unless you use a light bar in semi-rural areas that is

As far as I can tell they’re important for night-time off-roading only. Similar for the mega high beam downhill mountain bike headlights. But in both communities, there’s no shortage of assholes who just love their billion lumen fuck you lights. Cycling against bike traffic during bike peak hour on say the Scotchman’s creek trail is fucked for the high beams. But no one gets in trouble for it, so people do what they want. Driving round in the bush these days I no longer dip my lights until they do, I used to try and do it as I saw the glow of oncoming headlights so I was never actually beaming anyone but people mostly just seem to leave their high beams on.

    TLDR: malakas

Yeah I try to be good, but these idiots probably can’t even see the glow of my headlights, because theirs are so bright, so I’ve also defaulted to letting them make the first move. Another thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes they will turn of the light bar but keep the high beams on.

Don’t forget the tradies with permanently loaded trays and stock spring so their lights point up into your face.

And the ones with improperly installed HID or LED lights, so that even the low beams burn into the back of your eyes.

It’s all especially pleasant when you also have astigmatism.

It’s not even just aftermarket stuff. The manufacturers cheat the tests by having the spots tested for brightness dimmer than the rest.

The higher bumper heights are also a problem there, as even with a legal cutoff they blind an oncoming sedan at 20m
