Initial thoughts? I’m only a few hours in (chapter 4 right now). I did not read any of the pre release material.
This is an entirely new world right? Or does it overlap with known parts of the cosmere?
I really liked the book, Hoid narration was fun and very different from Tress, and we got some time with Design!
Agreed, Design is great so far!
Design was an absolute delight!
Pretty sure it’s a new world! Not somewhere we’ve seen before.
What’s really intriguing me is the narration - a lot of the comparisons are Rosharan centric. Is the narrator native to Roshar?
I don’t know why I assumed the narrator was Hoid. There’s kind of a jokey nature to parts of it but I don’t think it was ever explicitly stated.
It’s 100% Hoid. There’s a few lines in Chapter 5 where
SP3 Chapter 5 and Epilogue
the narator is talking about how they did the lightweaving to make Design look human, and how they’re frozen in time and used as the coat rack. Hoid unfreezes at the end in the second epilogue before he and Design leave the planet.
I’m also just 4-5 chapters in. Who the narrator is should be fairly obvious a few chapters in. He is telling a story to someone on Roshar. I’ve also noticed references to some more modern tech, so I wonder if it’s pretty far in the future of Roshar.
It’s a new world, but it is in the cosmere. Hoid and Pattern are there.
The only non-cosmere novel from the secret projects is #2: The Frugal Wizard’s Guide to Surviving Medieval England.
Hoid and Pattern Design are there.
FTFY. Design is Hoid’s Cryptic.
Gah! You’re right, my bad.
I just finished it earlier today and quite enjoyed the read. It is a new planet correct.
I haven’t downloaded the files yet. Wondering if it’ll be a lighter tone like Tress, or heavier. I really liked Hoid telling Tress’s story, and look forward to learning more about her world & its shard(s).
Avoid other messages in the thread because of spoilers. I’ll avoid them - it’s fantastic. One or two chapters left and I love the story so much. Probably one of my top 3 cosmere books. Was not expecting it.
*****spoiler on tone ******
Definitely not as light as Tress. Much heavier moments/concepts but with a lot of humor throughout the early parts.
