As an AuDHD person, the college dropout story is relatable to me, except for the YouTube career success. I grew up in a madhouse during my traumatic childhood, and going to college free from my backwards, overprotective, overly strict parents was essentially like falling off a cliff. I was already burnt out during my last year of high school, and I was too excited with the freedom and ended up wasting time playing video games and skipping classes regularly because I had little energy to function as an adult. I still struggle with burnout to this day due to being an overworked IT contractor for years.
I really should just go get diagnosed. I don’t know why I’ve been sitting on it all these years. I have been pretty sure that I’ve had ADHD for over a decade now.
This is too relatable lol
“I’m pretty sure I have the chronic procrastination disorder but I don’t know why I’ve spent so much time procrastinating about seeking a diagnosis for it.”
(I say this with genuine solidarity btw - no malice intended.)
I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t actually do that on purpose. I also procrastinated making this response for no reason whatsoever. I really should get help.
I can’t tell you how much sympathy I have for you. It’s tough, really tough, and I get it. Things don’t have to be this difficult though.
You deserve to have a life where you are well supported. You can do this 💪
Thank you. I finally put in a request to my doctor for a referral to be evaluated as of a few moments ago. Hopefully I can finally get my mind on the right track.
Fuck yeah! Well done - you are crushing it.
You probably already read this but I wrote this reply with advice for what I’d recommend to have prepared before seeing a doctor for a referral.
Good luck with it. Don’t forget that we’re always here if you need support or advice.
Write that sentence down. Then read it again.
And then grab someone you trust and make them help you find a psychiatrist. It involves lists and calling and waiting and planning and appointments, aka all the things you are probably terrible at. So get help if possible.
