I haven’t really done a proper test yet … some trickiness is getting in the way.

    But generally, there’s some promise.

Lemmy recognises hashtags and creates links with them to hashtag searches on your masto instance, which actually nice.

What I wanted to test was whether a lemmy post using a hashtag will get recognised and available in the corresponding hashtag filter/search on masto.

Unfortunately, the latest version of lemmy has a federation issue ATM.

Well the original post came from my mastodon account, so you seeing it on your mastodon instance is just normal hashtag stuff.

It comes through on lemmy too, and is recognised with the link I mentioned above.

But I really want to know is whether lemmy people can effectively post into masto/microblog hashtag “space” and kinda merge the two somewhat more seamlessly.

Just struggling to find a test community/group that works at the moment!

To elaborate on my thinking …

following a lemmy community from masto doesn’t work well … all posts *and* comments come through to form a firehose.

If instead lemmy communities could add hashtags to their top-level posts, then that’d be a nicer middle ground. All of the lemmy comments to the post wouldn’t come through to masto unless you looked at the replies or replied yourself.

Thinking about this for the startrek hashtag and lemmy community.
