On KDE, it’s a lot better, only issue is that those apps aren’t scaled there, on gnome it’s just horrible.

How is development there going?

    Great … but it depends. If you use XWayland it’s still a blurry mess, so once all the applications are all Wayland native it’ll be great (Electron apps like Discord, Wine, etc). The KDE devs really made some wise decisions on some foundational aspects of their framework that made scaling work excellent, and their solution works even doubly so under Wayland with XWayland applications.

    The Gnome developers took an approach that was very elegant before HiDPI was a thing, so for Xorg users we just won’t be seeing any improvements at all. They will only continue to improve the framebuffer scaling solution that only works on Wayland, and only looks nice in all-Wayland environments.
