This doesn’t matter. Literally every custom ROM comes with its own forked version of the AOSP dialer and messages.
This is a good thing. It’s removing garbage bloat that no ROMs even use.
Google is trying to kill open source based on the assumption that their code is good enough to stand on its own, but as we’ve seen before, the majority of innovation that occurs on Android and it’s derivatives come from third party developers.
I’m using LineageOS. A new dialer app wouldn’t be that hard (not needed on a tablet) and there are plenty of messaging apps.
LineageOS already uses their own version of these apps. They do not use AOSP Dialer or Messages.
Great. I was unclear on what the default is after Signal deprecated sms support so I had to pick something else to handle them.
https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Android/releases/tag/v6.24.4 still handles sms. I need to fork it and remove their pop-up to remove sms support
Good old Google, never, ever fails to fucking disappoint !

I knew this kinda stuff was Google’s attitude towards open source. This is why I didn’t even consider Pixels’ custom roms support when picking the Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) over the Pixel 6a.
Will this affect grapheneos?
No, they are just cleaning AOSP up with their trash.
I never used GrapheneOS, but i know they don’t use these apps.

On my crdroid rom I use the Google official dialer and message app and they are pretty similar to the aosp one with more features. So I don’t have any reason to go back to aosp apps maybe for privacy but, for privacy just throw the phone cause the system itself spying you.

As if apple allows anything close to this?
