Some were swept up in grunge, others went normcore, many wanted a career so coded themselves around that. The Lost boys might equally be a bunch of California grunge gays, but that has no visual coding to it to be seen.

I suspect it’s more just that 1990s gay men didn’t code themselves that much in the way of fashion.
