    Alarms, sure. Confounds?

Confounds? defined - verb - cause surprise or confusion in (someone), especially by acting against their expectations. “the inflation figure confounded economic analysts”

IS THERE ANY FUCKING DOUBT AT THIS POINT?

1.5c was in the rear view window when we decided 1.5c should be the ceiling. we’ve passed a tipping point. I think the vast majority of climatologists aren’t confounded by the results, simply determined not to be accused of doomerism.

watch, when the shit really hits the fan, conservatives will find a way to blame them for not warning enough.

Everybody laughs until the seasons are no longer reliable enough to grow wheat, corn, or rice, and then suddenly 7.5 billion people starve to death over a two year period.

I’m worried this summer we’ll see massive crop failures and significant deaths from heat. It was 38c in Delhi today - we’re nowhere near the hottest part of the year. It’s going to be brutal.

Among scientists there wasn’t any significant doubt twenty years ago. It was just spin doctors trying to pretend otherwise.

More nefarious than that IMHO. The science community works on consensus.

So when we say temperature will rise by 2.5 degrees and we are fucked That’s the number they all agreed on.

99% of scientists may agree that a 1 degree rise means we are fucked. The 1% says 3 degrees. So if big business or shit government gets to that 1% they can control the narrative around what is socialized.

I’m a child of the 70’s. Scientists have been ringing the warning bell for decades. Look at how ocean acidification is swept under the rug in all climate discussions. Scientists know it’s a huge problem and has been since at least the 80’s but do ALL scientists agree we are fucked?

If I was a scientist I’d be so damn jaded at the state of the world.

At least we can all be happy we are helping people get rich. Thats what is important after all.

Among scientists and on slrpnk - no surprise. But the society is sadly not concerned enough. I feel no one does a fuck.

It’s not like we didn’t know this for over 50 years. Why act surprised now? The oil companies had studies for decades on global warming, climate change, etc. Scientist have been talking about it for just as long and no one listened.

I don’t see the issue. Climate isn’t an engine or whatever. It’s a complex system that we don’t know how it fully works. Human introduced and introduces changes in this system. We barely understand all the effects these changes have as we don’t know how it fully works.

Of course, we can only assume the consequences.

While i agree, unfortunately these models (hopefully) drive politics.
Politicians will do the minimum they can get away with. Thats both human nature and capitalism.
If the models undershoot (climate change accelerates faster than scientists predict), the world is fucked.
If the models overshoot (panic etc, and it ends up being a nothingburger), people will stop trusting models.
If the models are spot on, action is taken, and everything is fine… Everyone doubts the models and the hype - despite the fact the threat was understood, acted on and fixed, and a catastrophy averted (think y2k)

I think we are pretty fucked, tbh.

I think that human ingenuity still has a chance. We need to stop letting psychopaths lead, though.
