AI’s value is always going to magically meet whatever can be gained from cutting labor, but whether it can actually do anything remains to be seen. Lots of confusion, seems like a million different great opportunities to short-sell.

    Depends what AI.

Current AI’s are dumb, and possess zero critical thought. They can improve speed and efficiency, and reduce costs, but only when applied with care. It’s best to think of them more like outsourcing — when done poorly they will achieve the opposite of what they promise, and will completely destroy many businesses.

If/when General AI is achieved (probably decades if not centuries away), EVERY human role will be replaced; the only barrier would be the initial state of computing resources and robotics. The only roles which won’t be replaced are the capitalists/owners — not because they aren’t entirely replaceable, but because they’re at the top of the food chain (until the GAI replaces them, which it will).

I believe AI will eliminate the work force for most things. I know it’s wishful thinking but governments need to start preparing with UBI and other laws.
