I was thinking about Kitt Pride, XMen, and her super power to phase through solid objects, yet not sink through the floor or lose her clothes, but just wondering if she was kind of outside of our reality and not actually interacting with the molecules. Which made me wonder, if you weren’t interacting with the air molecules, would you make any noise? Whether attempting to talk or what not.

I’m guessing the answer is no, but just curious what others thought.

If you can’t interact with air at all then no, sound is just vibrations in matter.

But since this is really a sci-fi question it’s likely that kitty pride has some ability to selectively change how she interacts with different types of matter. Like you said she doesn’t fall through the earth every time she phases so maybe she can keep her interactions with the floor and the atmosphere solid while only choosing to not interact with a wall.

Awesome thanks. And yeah the Kitty Pride was just a jumping off point for my initial curiousity.

If it’s just air molecules you’re not interacting with, you could make noise by interacting with something else. e.g. beating on a drum

Can you still interact with solid objects? Because you could make a sound by banging on things. Besides, I thought that power had to be used intentionally, so she wouldn’t fall through the floor or fall out of a moving car.
