    A recent update to Apex Legends has been causing some havoc on Linux / Steam Deck, but now Valve have released a fresh update to Proton Hotfix to get it working again.

    Before the Proton Hotfix update you were likely to see a black screen, with no ability to actually get to the menu.

    Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais noted on X the update about 14 hours ago, although it actually only just got set public (oops).

    Nice to see Valve once again react quite quickly for a very popular live-service game to work again (it’s constantly in the Top 10 most played on Steam), especially as it’s rated Steam Deck Verified.

    Around two days is not a bad turnaround time, although a shame that EA / Respawn aren’t testing to ensure they don’t break it, but we likely still need a fair bit bigger user share before such huge publishers will do that.

    Valve appear to have set Proton Hotfix by default for Apex Legends, so you shouldn’t need to do anything.
