Happy Friday motherfondlers! Guess who got the job 😎😎😎😎

Well, pending standard preemployment checks, the links for which if they don’t come through today should arrive on Tuesday. Fingers crossed I can get it all sorted by the end of next week :D

I really need to stop procrastinating on getting a car though because even though this job won’t exactly pay enough for all running costs after rent and bills (being two days a week), I’ve been meaning to get one anyway and have savings kept aside for that. Plus I’m slowly feeling more positive and motivated about getting my arse off crosswords and cooking up side gigs to supplement this as I want

e: didn’t want to clog up dt with replies to everyone but thank you all for the congratulatory messages :D

Thank you!! I’m lucky this came up too, not many PT roles around in my field atm. And I really liked the vibe of the team - even admin wise they are much more coordinated than the previous place I interviewed at.

Always a good sign when the admin side is up to scratch. The support team is usually very undervalued (and female) and utterly essential to getting the work done on time and within budget. Been there, done that. Looks like it’s coming up Milhouse for you.

Proof of the pudding is in the first few weeks of eating - but so far so good. I’ve only ever been to one other interview (the recent one) in 7 years so not much to compare, but from everything I’ve gathered so far it feels like there’s a good culture around women, especially important considering I work in a very male-dominated industry (bodes well that my predecessor, now supervisor, is a woman herself!)

Heck, there’s even a clause in the EBA for Extreme Menstrual Pain Leave! I would’ve loved that all those years before getting an IUD.

Congrats!! I’m glad to hear you got the job!

      When do you start work?

Surely you have to celebrate with something nice.

Depends on the employment checks really, I think most of it is just uploading documents so should be all clear by end of next week - however if there is a medical check then that can be a bit delayed depending on the medical provider. I think it won’t take more than 2 weeks all up, so best case week after next, worst case Easter.

The job won’t bring in mega bux, just cover my rent and essential bills, so I’m still cautious of living it up (I also still have a compromised appetite due to meds). I’ll still be eating into my savings for some things esp as I already have an upcoming splurge on a now-or-never OS holiday with good friends in late May/early Jun… But it’s still an excellent base income to stress ratio and I’m allowing myself to use a chunk of my savings as recovery from massive burnout over the last 3 years.

I did treat myself to buying some fresh Australian barramundi from the fancy butcher though. Maybe I’ll get some NZ king ora salmon after my first pay 😋

Just a once off I think it’s ok and the fish certainly counts. Do tell how will you cook the barramundi?

Hopefully it won’t take as long as 2 weeks for all the checks to be done so you can start sooner and at least stabilise your income a little sooner rather than later.

Took a photo of dinner for ya. Not bad if I say so myself - my attempt at jerk seasoning tasted great on its own though maybe not so much after cooking

              Very nice, looks delicious!

What’s this jerk seasoning you were using? What is it supposed to taste like?

It’s a carribean spice blend, you can buy it pre made but I made a rough and dirty approximation of it with the spices I have. It’s spicy but also smoky with a sweet undertone and I added lemon juice for more of a kick. Has a diverse range of flavours - thyme, chili pepper, allspice, cinnamon, garlic and onion powder - lots going on.

Yeah I’m hoping there isn’t a medical (HR said there was at the interview but when I got the call from the hiring manager there wasn’t anything). That will be the slow part.

Unlikely I’ll get to start next week with Mon being a PH. I was hoping to set my work days as Mon and Tues anyway. Good news is some of the pre employment check links just came through so I can get those sorted out right away.

E: also re fish I’m thinking I’ll try a Jamaican jerk rub, and a side of tomato rice. Either that or steamed with hunan chillies, and a side of shiitake rice
