I understand if I get a slew of downvotes, but I thought that episode was pretty bad. The pacing was weird and many of the sequences involving the mining planet felt poorly written (what’s with the Witcher potion?). I feel like I’m the only person not into the whole Spock/Chapel thing, so seeing that pushed harder was cringe for me.

I agree completely. This Episode was not very good. Star Trek is best when smart people come up with brilliant ways to solve a problem. Beating up 20 klingons with super potion is just lazy writing and dumb. Stealing the Enterprise was unnecessary. Just write the Admiral to not be a dumbass and allow the mission.

I like the Spock/Chapel ship but you’re dead on with everything else.

I mostly agree. I don’t care about the Spock/Chapel thing, but I thought the weird fight scene where a doctor and nurse are beating the shit out of dozens of Klingons was silly. I also thought it was weird for Spock to steal the Enterprise at this stage in his career. I guess it makes sense with the whole emotions stuff discussed in the episode, but I assumed younger Spock would be more rigid. I also get tired of the whole “jump out of the ship and hope someone saves you in the short time you have to live” trope. Until someone can top how Hitchhiker’s Guide handled it, they should stop.

I don’t know that I’d say it was bad exactly, but it was definitely a weaker SNW episode in my book.
