In case you encounter a VAC verification issue.

  • Steam -> CSGO -> properties -> betas (chose the newest one “1.38.3.6 - 1.38.3.6”) if no download happens, choose demo.
  • launch the game. Since I chose demo, I couldn’t launch the game.
  • close the game
  • Steam -> CSGO -> properties -> betas (chose the actual patch “NONE”) That works for me, hope it will work for you too! 🙂

I play csgo on Linux and get this once in awhile. Restarting steam tends to fix the issue.

Had that on Garuda, reboot, restarting steam, even booting into debian didn’t fix it. (Debian with totally different user directory and everything)

Then about a week later I put in a ticket with valve, was told to open a ticket on their GitHub for Linux, and before I could do that, the issue magically resolved itself. Very strange.

What has worked for me recently is queuing for official DM and then cancelling immediately. Some friends have also reported this fixes the problem. Don’t even need to relaunch the game.

Unless it’s gone by a simple restart of the game, the only thing to have ever reliably worked for me and my friends is a reinstall of the game. Consistently so, that by now, we just don’t try anything else anymore and jump directly to the reinstall.

    Is this method (much) faster?

With the amount of different solutions floating around, the issue is most liked server side. I have the problem quite a bit. What I found that works is starting up a local not game, then trying again. No need to reinstall.
