Take the smallest pilot hole drillbit you have (1/16" or 1mm) and drill 5-8 holes in the bottom of your trash can. This not only allows the air to escape as the bag fills up, but also makes it easier to remove the trash bag later.
I’ve done this with two trash cans now and recommend it to everyone.
I see your point, but I’d rather have any leaks from holes in the trash bag contained in the trash can.
Definitely feel like when you end up with a bag you can’t pull out there’s a good chance it’s jammed full enough of stuff that something in there is leaking…
Never had any leaks since I’ve done . The holes are small and in the raised portion of the bottom, so most leaking should bypass them entirely.
Then again, maybe I don’t throw out as much juicy stuff as the rest of y’all.
The holes could probably be an inch or two above the bottom and still let the air out.
