Feel free to take this down if this isn’t what this community is for, but I was just thinking about that guy and wondering how on earth he ever became popular. Like people talk about industry plants, but he surely must be one no?

Half the stuff in mainstream music industry seems to be about using connections and marketing to get memed to the top. I wonder how much exactly the unfunny memes of DJ Khaled saying “another one” helped him get so popular.

Yeah that’s true, but if feel like most of those people have at least some marketable quality, I really struggle to think of any for DJ Khalid. Except for the potential to make fun of him like you mentioned I suppose

DJ Khaled is a glorified agent. His contributions on the songs he’s featured in is having the number of the actual artists (which let’s be honest, a lot of them are industry plants to begin with) and convincing them to do a song with someone else. Notice how he is never in a feat with 1 other guy, it’s always at least him and 2 other people.

The one thing he did differently was that isntead of just taking a payment for placing 5 calls total, he says “dj Khaled” once, gets on the artist list and gets royalties on that song.
