I just finished Blindsight by Peter Watts + the short story The Colonel, which serves as a tie-in between the first book and Echopraxia. Gonna have to wait a while before picking Echopraxia though, this books are demanding!
I’ve been meaning to reread Blindsight. Such a unique book.
Reading fantasy for now (A Wizard of Earthsea) but I’m also going through the Clarkesworld backlog. Its cool to find authors that way, and feels like less of a commitment than a novel.
Once I wrap up Earthsea, I’m hopping back into The Expanse with Persepolis Rising.
I’m sure that Blindsight will be better after rereading!
Also, going through the Clarkesworld backlog is no small feat, that’s 201 numbers as of right this month lmao
Yeah I don’t think I was in the right headspace to really enjoy Blindsight on my first run. I was still trying to figure out the multiple personality thing when the aliens started aliening.
The early Clarkesworld issues are super short. And if you stagger them out like between novels they feel like a nice palette cleanser. Once I’ve worked through more of the issues, I might make a post on what issues were my favorite.
It’ll be nice to read about! I also remember reading somewhere that Clarke’s world were working on offering some kind of packages to get their older releases, so it could be a nice guide for once they get them out as well
All of their old issues are posted free on their website, so that’s been enough for me
I’ve been reading Children of Memory, but I’m not yet feeling it. About halfway through.
I just read Legends and Lattes on Thursday and Friday because somehow 6 users snuck up in the queue behind me at the local library, presumably because it hit many best of year lists. It’s definitely cozy fiction and as such did its job well.
Gradually fighting my way to the end of Hopeland today, I think. I normally love Ian McDonald but this is just not my favorite by him I am afraid.
