This one I got for 600EUR used from Austria. Features a P1000 with 4GB VRAM (equiv. to a 1050 I think, I can run Sea of Thieves on medium settings at 40-50FPS), an i7-8850H vPRO (vPRO means something for security, could be important in like government jobs), 32GB RAM, a 512GB NVME SSD and a FP sensor.

The laptop has (I think) 4 RAM slots, 2 M.2 slots and a standard 2.5" HDD bay. It also has 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports (you can hook up an eGPU if needed), both of which have DisplayPort functionality. It also features a separate miniDP and HDMI port.

Battery is 90Wh new, standby usage is about 9W so it can idle for about 10 hours. When playing SoT, it can draw up to 50-60W.

Don’t expect much from it’s speakers, though. They’re quite weak.

Yeah, the specs sound great, I really considered picking on up, but I’m afraid the quattro gpus aren’t optimized for editing. I guess I’d have to purchase from a seller that accepts returns to try it in a real world situation/project.

That’s lovely! If I could squeeze a bit more money I could get P52, but I can only afford P52s for like USD 550 in my country :3 The P52 was about USD 200 more. It’s got the i7-8650u, Quadro P500, 16 GB RAM.

But so far the P52s is the most high-end machine I ever had, and it’s been great for a lot of stuff except Unreal Engine. Dealing with UE4 made me realize that 16 GB ram is not enough, and the 2 GB VRAM of the P500 is not very enough. Megascans 4K & 8K textures are killing me, lol. But I can still deal with textures less than 512px size. But I play game nicely with this.

And I agree about the speakers, a lot of people ThinkPad speakers are pretty basic. I cannot hear any bass at all from this machine. At least listening from a headphone sounds good enough. Although some says that apparently the newer X1 got a good speaker.

Seems like the P52s also has a thunderbolt 3 port, so if you can’t quite afford an entire new laptop or PC, you can get a TB3 eGPU enclosure and GPU combo.

Edit: Should mention that I got my one used, a new P52 costs about 1000USD, which is ~35% cheaper when 600EUR is converted to USD.

Yes it does have the Thunderbolt 3! The firmware is bricked though, I’d try to figure out to fix it later. Tried before, but can’t fix it with fwupdmgr or manually downloading the firmware.

Actually I also just realized, EUR 600 is about the same price of refurbished P52 in my country. My P52s is also refurbished, bought 4 months ago.

eGPU has the reputation for being more expensive than a good PC on people around me. I myself haven’t really do a lot of look around for their prices. They said that it can cost for around (converted to) EUR 500 to 800 or more for both enclosure and the GPU.

But I just did a bit of look up, the enclosure is ranging from EUR 40 to 160, and there’s also more expensive option. The GPU itself is definitely more varied. A 3070 TI is roughly around EUR 500. But RX 6700 XT is EUR 190… The prices are not reachable for me atm, but they seem to be lower than what people said. I guess it’s a possibility in the future, I should do more research on the prices.

Would be nice if you included the output of the *fetch app of your choice into your Thinkstagram pictures :p
