I just hate having qualifying and the races spoiled by headlines. I know this is “me” problem, but I can’t be the only one, right?

not make posts with results, and limit talk about sessions to discussion posts, where the title and body is nothing more than info about which session it is about.

That would be all I would want, honestly. I’m smart enough to avoid most regular websites with headlines on raceday, but I don’t want to have to unsubscribe to this community, you know?

Hey, I’m currently the only active mod in this community (the founder being seemingly inactive since creating it).

I almost never watch races live (family/life), so I wouldn’t be able to enforce a rule like that even if I wanted to.

I too unsub from r/formula1 around a race weekend if I know I can’t watch live.

I’d like to bring a few people in as mods in here, as well as bring up a set of rules for this community. I’ll likely post about this later this week.

Hi, I would be happy to help moderate here if you need help, I am a big F1 fan and have plenty of experience in moderation on social media!

When I’m less unwell I’ll put a post up about the community, I’ll be calling out for mods in there. I’m leaving this reply in my inbox as unread so I don’t forget you.

Sorry to hear you are having health issues.

Definitely let us know when it’s time to add more mods. With all of us refugees I’m sure you’ll have your pick of names. Including myself.

How does it work if a community creator disappears? Is it possible to transfer ownership? How can we prevent it from being abandoned with no effort going in?

In /c/community_requests you can post to take over an abandoned community. That’s how I ended up being a mod in here.

      Sweet!

And as for family/life timesuck, I totally get it. I’m in the same boat. That’s why I can’t watch live. I download the races after they’re posted to /r/motorsportsreplays and watch them after the kids have gone to bed. And that way I can pause it to go to the bathroom or make some tea or whatever. Or if I fall asleep halfway through a race (as has happened multiple times), I can pick it back up the next night and watch the rest.

I don’t know Lemmy’s policy on torrents etc. but since we’re small, I would imagine that we could get away with having our own /c/motorsportsreplays that’s basically a mirror of what reddit has, without raising too many eyebrows.

Yeah, I’m not sure what the policies are on copyright in here, but I will likely prohibit the sharing of streaming links in this community. I don’t want any reason for this community to get closed.

Fwiw, I use a vpn and f1tv for my F1 viewing. Works a treat.

Sleeping through part of a race is 100% dad behaviour and I’ve done it more than once. Annoying sometimes if you wake up on the last lap!

Agreed. I am in the US and we often watch about mid day PST. It’s rough avoiding all media.

On the other hand people want to celebrate and I get it. Maybe if there’s a spoiler mask option?

Here’s the relevant rule from /r/formula1, they ban spoilers for non-F1 series, but allow spoilers for F1:

Spoilers for other series must be properly marked

When posting about different racing series, do not include spoilers (who, when) in the title for a minimum of 24 hours after the event has ended, including spoilers that can be inferred/implied. Use spoiler tags where appropriate.

This only applies to other racing series. Fans of other series visiting r/formula1 shouldn’t expect to see spoilers for other series here, but to avoid spoilers for Formula 1 itself, you will have to avoid the sub until you have caught up on the latest event.

I use multi-reddits and other filters to avoid /r/formula from quali/race day until I’ve caught up. I’m not sure what the options are on Lemmy. The only things I can think of are:

    • Browse local (my account isn’t on lemmy.ml where this community is)
    • Block/unsub !formula1@lemmy.ml at the start of race day and then unblock/resub once I’m caught up. That feels pretty icky.

On the one hand, it feels easy to avoid race result spoilers for 24h. You can have a post titled “Race Results” and put the results behind an nsfw tag. I do struggle with how to handle race events though. You really want useful titles like “Onboard for pit-lane speeding penalty” or “Red Bulls crash into each other” for events that happened during the race. I don’t see a really sensible way to allow any posts about race events outside a race-discussion thread that don’t result in a spoiler in the title.

I often watch races a day or two late, and while I’d appreciate this… it’s not clear to me how to do it in a way that doesn’t stop the vast majority of useful posts.

Yeah, I might just have to unsubscribe to the community, like I do on Reddit, and only visit it on purpose - so that it doesn’t pop up on my feed.

Uff I sympathise but I can’t imagine enforcing this as realistic. TV shows communities often have rules about spoilers in titles for the first few days after an episode airs, but live sports events…

I agree for sure, I commented on a spoiler post just the other day on the Formula E community about this same thing.

On reddit they used vague titles like “congrats to the Monaco GP winner!” And then have the drivers image as the post. That should be common courtesy.

Isn’t there a spoiler tag option when creating a post? Does it work?

(Sorry, I’m on mobile right now and can’t seem to test it.)

Looks like there’s an NSFW tag, but not spoiler. I don’t think that Lemmy has flair yet either.
