Active seems to order based on discussion length while hot lets you discover newer content that’s also popular.

I changed my default settings to hot, since it seems to be better for discovery.

    Yes yes yes this should be the default!!! If new user refresh the page/app it is always the same stuff because of this “active”

    Dev should use “hot” as default.

    Here in the documentation it explains what the sort modes do. Active considers the time of the latest comment, and hot considers when the post was published instead.

      Thank you, that makes sense. My biggest concern here is that “Active” often shows posts that are several days old when new content is already available.

    Agreed, active is interesting and may be useful in some situations (maybe if you want to keep up-to-date on new comments on big posts) but I feel like hot lets new posts show up more easily.
