Feel welcome to use this post for testing purposes, feedback on the instance and to say hi!
Since the playground model wasn’t really that good (it prevents users from making things their home), I’ve decided not to announce this instance to be in playground/testing mode. Instead, i’ll simply try to make it work and hope that it won’t become an administrative nightmare.
However – things are looking quite good so far.
In the background i am currently trying to determine whether the current location is powerful enough midterm, if not, there will be a quick and quiet maintenance to move the thing to a more fitting place (looking at the potential upcoming wave from Reddit). Also there are some smaller things in the background still being worked on, but they shouldn’t affect users.
tl;dr have fun, if everything goes well, this will be a permanent place for people to enjoy – i hope. 🚀
Also check out https://join-lemmy.org/apps for apps and stuff.
Hallo und merci!
^Test comment. Ignore.^
Hey everyone, I’m just looking at Lemmy for the first time. I’m still slightly overwhelmed 😁 But I had that at the beginning with Mastodon too. 😅
welcome! yes, first impression can be overwhelming but it usually doesn’t take long to get used to it. i even have the thing open in my phones browser sometimes which i rarely do with any site. :)
Just Hi everyone.
I arrived by the flight from reddit. It was all right, no major turbulences, landing was smooth. And for once security didn’t make me loose 3h at the airport.
Wonderful! Have a nice stay!
Lemmy definitely has a bit of a learning curve compared to reddit, but hey, nothing is free. Interested in seeing how this goes!
I’m curious about what #lemmy is or is heading at, and I don’t know reddit. We’ll see…
Kein Ahnung…Mal schauen
Thanks Milan for setting this up! Works now from Jerboa for me :)
🎊
Thanks for hosting this! Looking forward to participate in the communities here.
Hi, I’m a first time lemmy user. It’s amazing what you set up at tchncs.de and I must say I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. Thank you.
Same here. This is a whole different world.
Since Reddit is currently performing the Twitter-Musk stunt and wants to have the API for third-party apps gold-plated, I have to give Lemmy a try.
Thanks to @milan@lemmy.ml for the opportunity.
Thank you for this instance Milan !
Hey everyone, I’ve been on lemmy for a while if anyone has any questions, just made an account here since, well it exists, and also lemmy.ml is having trouble with the influx of new users.
welcome!
Still getting used to lemmy, was wondering if the sorting of comments was a thing you could change (permanently) user side or if it was server side? Also the auto-refreshing ‘home page’ that scoots everything down is bad on desktop. Not a whole lot of ‘googleable’ information yet on lemmy
Partially yes: https://discuss.tchncs.de/settings … but i don’t know about comments… consider asking in !lemmy@lemmy.ml or !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml… if anything, the impact on your request might be greater there :)
This is great!
However I can’t connect to https://discuss.tchncs.de/ using lemmy apps from F-Droid.
Both lemmur and Jerboa consider this URL to be no lemmy instance.
What could be the reason for this?
Is there some API option that needs to be activated on the server?
I just logged in from jerboa. Lemmur is sort of abandoned right now so it might have it’s own issues.
Tried again and it works now using Jerboa. Don’t known what made the difference, but I did change my password, which seemed to help for someone else, too.
Had the same problem on another device. It worked after removing ‘http://’ from the URL. It seems Jerboa just doesn’t accept URLs in the instance field.
I sadly can’t test android apps right now, but what i can say is that the Mlem iOS client does indeed work. Hmm 🤔
Getting ‘could not connect’ on Mlem… hmm. Using ‘discuss.tchncs.de’ in the Homepage field.
are you trying your email as username? as of the recent release that doesnt seem to work anymore
Username as username. Also, holy crap. Inline updates for comments? This is neat.
hm… since it throws that useless error on my example… maybe something else is wrong? maybe a space added to the password or uppercase/lowercase problem with the username?
Got it. Password manager/integration issue. Was selecting the account from Bitwarden to fill the password field. Copying the value from BW directly and then pasting got me in. Weird.
weird indeed as i am using bitwarden as well… for me its just watching out for the username…
seems to be working now!
Nice grumpy cat.
Looks just like in our garden!
