WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Communications intercepts collected by the United States confirmed that Islamic State’s (ISIS) Afghanistan-based branch carried out twin bombings in Iran that killed nearly 100 people, two sources familiar with the intelligence told Reuters on Friday.

“The intelligence is clear-cut and indisputable,” one source said.

That source and a second, both of whom requested anonymity to discuss the sensitive issue, said the intelligence comprised communications intercepts, without providing further details. The collection of the intercepts has not been previously reported.

Wednesday’s bombings, the deadliest of their kind in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, added to regional tensions over the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and attacks by Yemen’s Tehran-aligned Houthi group on commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

This must be the extremely real “ISIS-K” which showed up immediately after the US pulled out of Afghanistan. Bombing the funeral procession of the guy Trump killed 3 years ago. Seems legit, this must just be random terrorism totally unrelated the the US in any way and we would be fools to suspect the airtight narrative coming from… “two sources familiar with the intelligence” the CIA, lol.

I’m pretty sure ISIS took responsibility for it, like a day after it happened.

Honestly, I have no idea why any agency in the us feels the need to confirm something that someone else has already owned up to. Seems redundant.

It’s not unheard of for groups to claim responsibility to gain clout, and seem more capable than they really are. So this more of a “trust but verify” scenario than really a blame game.

Plus, the CIA probably feels the need to flex a bit by saying they have sources that far inside ISIS.

And maybe they don’t. Maybe it’s a fucking massive shell game. Because that’s all Intelligence really is, isn’t it?
