The FDNY told The Independent that the incident was brought under control by 7.08 AM and the cause of reported explosions and shaking is currently “unfounded". They have turned the scene over to Con Edison, the power supply company for New York City.

The New York Police Department told The Independent that a transformer “could have possibly caused the incident”. However, the NYPD refrained from commenting on the location of the transformer
