Instead of talking about equal representation and change, most of everything she did was just calling things misogynist and sexist etc.(she was going video series, blogs, tweets etc

And she was 3000% right. Everything she mentioned and criticized literally was misogynist and sexist and deserved to be called out.

All of her work was baby’s first forays into feminist critiques and she went positively out of her way to say in EVERY SINGLE video that her criticisms didn’t mean that any of the media she was talking about couldn’t be enjoyed but merely reified harmful attitudes and tropes that reproduce themselves because of the inherent misogyny in our society and that critiquing those things is the only way to move towards more equal representation and overcome those problems.

meant that many games started to either not come out in the west (Japanese ones in particular) or would stay away from controversial topics to not get the game cancelled. Which I think is why many people think she hurt the gaming industry and developers making what they want to instead make safe games.

Precisely NONE of that shit happened and definitely not as a result of this one woman. Gamers made shit up and used her as a scapegoat for outrage politics. The industry, over the course of years, noticed a trend of a new emerging market of women and non cishet men gamers and began appealing to them little by little which gamers threw an absolute pissfit about bc, even tho this is a predictable outcome of the capitalist system they purport to love, they can’t stand the idea of inclusion in this space they dominated for purely ego based reasons. And it’s is important to note that tons of games have existed and still exist that are entirely revolve around appealing to men and the male gaze.

Innuendo studios has a significantly more honest and accurate account of sarkeesian and gamers reactionary witch hunt here for anyone interested

Amusingly, the one game they blamed Anita Sarkeesian for getting cancelled in the West was… Dead or Alive: Xtreme 3 michael-laugh

IIRC Tecmo made no official statement about it not getting a release outside of Japan, but whomever was operating their Facebook page pointed to “current social attitudes overseas” as the reason when they were asked and Kotaku in Action types ran with it like they had finally found the bloody murder weapon with Anita’s fingerprints all over it

I recall people mentioning that Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 for the Xbox 360 sold like absolute dogshit. I think the only reason the first two games got released in the West at all was because they were done during Tomonobu Itagaki’s reign at Team Ninja and his exclusivity deal with Microsoft
