Hello friends,

I am looking for a self-hosted task / to-do list app that supports:

  • syncing across devices, preferably self-hosted
  • sort items myself rather than by deadline or built-in priority features, and preserve that order when syncing
  • allow defining arbitrary custom attributes

Some really nice to haves but not absolutely necessary features:

  • treat custom attributes as first-class. i.e. allow showing those attributes on the task-list view, without having to view all details to see it. Or be able to filter or by the attribute or sort by it.
  • allow custom logic for sorting
  • just scriptable features in general would be nice

I have been thinking of making my own, but wanted to see if this exists first.

Answering myself: looks like taskwarrior is the closest thing right now. It seems moderately customizable with custom sort and atributes, and those attributes are decently first-class.

There are android clients, some are unmaintained, but theres a solid one called “foreground”. I have not tried any android clients yet, so will look into that.

Happy you found something that works for you. I used TiddlerWiki for some time. It‘s very customizable and extensible. However, I ended up integrating my Tasks into Joplin in the end. I guess the main reason was that Joplin could be used offline too. (TiddlerWiki has the option to display content offline after you once load it, when used as PWA but it wasn‘t working reliably.)
