I got my start with board games with Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan, which are still pretty effective. Is there anything from the past five years or so that hit that big and is that approachable?

The Crew is a fantastic card game and is pretty approachable, especially if the players are familiar with cards and particularly bridge-style trick-taking games.
I also really like Azul. They have a few versions but I really like the original, it is also a bit easier to pick up and a fairly simple game with good strategy. The second version is also a fairly good. It is a bit more complex but I’m not sure that it is “worth” it.
