Correct, I only use American for the US because I don’t think there’s a term like “Mexican” or “Canadian” for the US other than “American”. US-ican or United States-ican doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.
Does any other country on the continent of North America or South America actually have the word “America” in their name? Do people from countries who don’t use the word “America” in their name identify more strongly with the word than people from countries that do use the word “America” in their name? I live in America. I do not live in the US. There are over 30 countries in America.
