Bought this one for my oldest son of two and a half years of age. He loves it and I love it - not because of its craptastic bridge or wonderful blue, but for its joyous ease to pick up and noddle for a bit.
It has sparked quite the musical revolution for me. Sort of floated away from my electric bass playing (after 9-10 years) around 2015~, since then I’ve not played much of anything. This Ukulele have me saving up for a really nice tenor of some kind - probably a Rebel Double Creme or something similar (vegan friendly higher end)
Molluscs and other animalia being used frequently for inlays and decoration as soon as you cross (100)150-200€ mark as well as bone being used for nut and saddle. The alternative to bone seem to be Tusq/GraphTech NuBone and as Rebel demonstrates really well, that inlays can be done using metals and stained wood (I think they use maple with different stains for the headstock logo).
I have actually sent Rebel an email asking how they seem to be quite alone in the mid-higher tier market in using almost exclusivly non-animal derived materials. The company is not vegan friendly as they sell some leather bags and such. The founder Peng does not seem to be vegan, but maybe their master Luthier has some opinions - we’ll see :)
