Mine cried when the little boy in “The Giving Tree” took the tree’s branches, and had me re-read the first few pages where he plays with the tree multiple times instead of finishing the book.

Yeah, that book is brutal. I never read it to my kids, didn’t dig the message of “give of yourself, even unto your eventual death, because you like someone - whether or not they seem to appreciate you!” I do like Uncle Shelby’s ABZ Book though!

My kids made plans with their friends, left the house for a while, and let me get in some alone time for playing retro remakes on the PS5.

The funny thing is that I’ve read it to him several times in the past. He just finally understood it well enough to do a double take and think “wait a minute, that seems like a terrible thing to do!”

Can’t wait until my son is old enough that I can say “go hang out with your friends for a few hours” without being irresponsible.

It’s wild watching their brains develop in real-time like that! Then, before you know it they’ll be out running around town and you’ll be missing them and want them home again! :)
