“It should not be hard to shut down hatred and antisemitism where we see it. That is a core tenet of solidarity,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
The New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America is facing a political firestorm after the organization promoted a pro-Palestine rally in the wake of Hamas militants’ attacks on Israeli communities.
The group did not organize Sunday’s rally, its leadership said Monday. But several lawmakers with DSA ties are distancing themselves from what was said at the event.
“It should not be hard to shut down hatred and antisemitism where we see it. That is a core tenet of solidarity,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y) and one of six DSA members in Congress, said in a statement late Monday — her first comments on the rally.
“The bigotry and callousness expressed in Times Square on Sunday were unacceptable and harmful in this devastating moment. It also did not speak for the thousands of New Yorkers who are capable of rejecting both Hamas’ horrifying attacks against innocent civilians as well as the grave injustices and violence Palestinians face under occupation,” she said.
Literally no. Genocide is the systematic extermination of a national, cultural, and/or ethnic group.
Which is what Israel is doing when it cuts off all food, water, medicine, fuel, and power to one of the most densely populated cities on the planet. When it tells Palestinians to evacuate to refugee camps and then bombs the refugee camps. Or, y’know, when soldiers and military intelligence start pushing a dubious story (still not seeing confirmation , just “sources say” and “according to” journalism) about Hamas beheading babies and openly calls them animals.
It’s genocide when Israel’s plan is to turn the Gaza ghetto into a parking lot.
I know what genocide is, professor. Poor old lady is going to miss her head, because some westerner doesn’t scream Genocide loud en9ugh.
Well there aren’t any old ladies in Gaza because the life expectancy is 40 years old because it’s a concentration camp.
But you don’t care about that.
You know that Hamas collected millions of dollars for this attack. Maybe they should have given some of it to women’s health. Just a thought.
Victim blaming.
There’s over 2 million people in Gaza - one of the most densely populated regions on Earth. That’s a few dollars per person - a near zero impact on public health in a ghetto.
