“When the White House is facing Congressional Republican opposition claiming that the Biden administration has ‘weaponized’ the Bureau against the right wing, it has to tread very carefully,” says a senior FBI official.

People need to stop acting like the FBI are better than any other cops or acting “surprised” that it took them this long to take this seriously. This is par for the course with the FBI.
They’re doing this begrudgingly. They didn’t want to stop January 6th, because you’ve got a lot of Trump sympathizers in the Bureau, but after the fact, they needed to “prove” themselves since they obviously fucked up massively by ignoring a coup attempt that was so brazen, so not hidden, so out in the open that motherfuckers printed up t-shirts for the event.
Stop acting like this is anything but covering up for a right wing organization with a history of abusing left wing movements while letting right wing movements thrive. This is the same FBI that wrote letters to MLK Jr telling him he should commit suicide. This is the FBI that described the Black Panthers as “the greatest threat to the internal security of the country.” This is the same FBI that railroaded Bruce Ivins over Anthrax in the Bush years (literally Robert Mueller) only for it later to be proven that it was impossible for Ivins to have produced Anthrax that pure. This is the same FBI that has made it a mission since the Bush years to find troubled, mentally-ill US citizens, put guns or bombs in their hands and push them to commit violence, only to swoop in at the last second, stop the violence, and then claim “We’re stopping terrorism!” It’s such a commonly known thing they do, comedy movies have been made about the subject.

In other words, the FBI is responsible for creating homegrown terrorists as a business model for funding for the last 20 years. Do we really believe that they’re so concerned about the MAGA threat after they completely ignored it during the Trump years?
This is PR bullshit. This is to cover for the fact that at the end of the day, the FBI are cops and what do we say about cops, kids?
All Cops Are Bastards.
I think it’s a mistake to view the modern FBI as a coherent will. Under the abuses of Hoover, sure, but today’s FBI was more than willing to investigate the Trump campaign (silently, as it should be) while the NY field office openly interfered with Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
A lot of people might not be familiar, but I never trusted Robert Mueller at being in any way good at his job after he had bungled the 2001 Anthrax Letters case twice. First owning money for defamation for the first person they pinned it on, and then harassing Bruce Ivins to death only for it to be later proven that their claims of proof were a lot less significant than the FBI claimed.

Also, let’s not forget the Anthrax Letters was a big scary much-ado-about-nothing. No one was harmed, but it fed into the narrative of the War on Terror, allowing Bush to continue pushing the idea that we needed to be able to spy on all Americans, because you never know who could be a bad guy or what the fuck ever. Bush definitely promoted anthrax as one of the scary weapons Saddam Hussein had.
If you don’t have a lot of questions as to why the whole situation happened the way it did and aren’t skeptical of Mueller’s investigation capabilities, I don’t know what to say. In respect to Trump, Mueller was there to put on a show of acting like they were doing something while not doing much at all. Trump still walks free.
I feel like I have a lot of recent justified reasons for not trusting the FBI. The history of the organization just shows they’ve always been a right-wing organization. In other words, cops.
That’s the old FBI, not the new FBI. And I’ll stand with the new FBI for as long as I can.
If you think anythings changed, you’re naive.
So the FBI railroading individuals in the last 18 years to “catch terrorists” isn’t “the new FBI” or did they suddenly shitcan anybody and everybody who was involved in such things when Biden took office? And Obama was just cool with it all?
The most recent case I referenced here was in 2017. Where have you even been? Do you really think they changed everyone in the agency in 6 years since then?
I can’t speak for US, but here in Melbourne Australia, our cops are legends, so I definitely wouldn’t say all.
But even in US, I’m sure there are a lot of good cops too
The problem in the US is that they don’t do nearly enough to stop bad cops or make them face punishment.
If you’re a so called “good” cop but you can’t stop your compatriots from organizing internal gangs and breaking the law with impunity and hiding behind the benefits of the badge (qualified immunity, civil forfeiture, etc), you have become a bad cop.
They always claim it’s “a couple of bad apples” while ignoring the whole phrase is “a couple of bad apples spoil the bunch.”
You don’t get to claim being a good cop if you work with bad cops and aren’t doing everything you can to get them punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Yes, that’s even if it’s because you knew there would be violent retaliation up to and including being murdered by your fellow cops (that has happened recently in California). You can either walk away with the evidence you have and give it to the public, or you can sit on it for your own safety.
I mean seriously, if there’s cops willing to fuck up your life because you’re a good cop, the entire system is already off the fucking rails, my man.
