    what does this mean for privacy frontends like libreddit and teddit?

      There is a good possibility it may be shut down as I just checked and confirmed they operate by JSON queries.

      If Reddit goes the route of mandating paid access to 3rd party API keys by usage, services such as teddit could just convert to a paid service that either uses their key and is funded by users. If Reddit offers keys to users for free or a reasonable price, the interface could change to allow users to input their own key obtained from Reddit.

      If all else fails (the API is restricted completely), give it a few months and I bet there will be at least one web scraping service for Reddit (in Piped fashion). That is Reddit is worth saving at that point.
